School Rules

Be Safe

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

Each person responsible for monitoring students will have the authority to set and supervise their own discipline plan. This includes teachers, administrators, and Noontime Assistants.

The following guidelines for teachers apply to the management of student behavior:

  • Teachers must develop class rules (they may be the same as the school rules), and a consequences and rewards plan.
  • The consequences plan must include a minimum of 5 steps, i.e.
              o  Step 1    Warning
o  Step 2    Loss of Privilege
o  Step 3    Time Out in another classroom or other Consequence.
              o  Step 4    Parent Contact
o  Step 5    Referral to the Office
  • Rules will be consistently enforced in a firm, fair manner with appropriate consequences and rewards.
  • If sending a student to the office a written referral must be sent with the child or within fifteen minutes of the time he/she arrives in the
office or the student will be sent back to class.
  • Severe offenses such as fighting (punches thrown), stealing, sexual harassment, etc. should be sent directly to the office without going through the steps.
  • Teachers will maintain close contact with parents.
    • When the above procedures are followed and a child is referred to the office for disciplinary action the following steps may be taken:
                1.  1-3 days of administrative lunch detention.
                2.  3 days of administrative lunch detention, phone call to parent, and possible Pre-suspension and/or community service.
                3.  3 days of administrative lunch detention, phone call to parent, and possible suspension and/or community service.
    • Exceptions to these sequences of consequences will be communicated to the classroom teacher. Teachers will be notified of all office referrals and the resulting action on the referral form. For students who have severe behavior concerns teachers will initiate a Student Success Team referral.
