Homework Policy

Homework is part of the school day. It is assigned to provide further practice in the lessons taught that day or week. To ensure completion of homework the following guidelines should be followed:

Teachers Responsibilities

  • Assign homework Monday through Thursday.
  • Carefully explain homework assignments in class.
  • Assignments should be a review and extension of concepts introduced in class and at the student’s instructional level.
  • Collect and check completed homework assignments.
  • Maintain a record of homework returned.
  • Communicate with parents regarding homework.
  • Amount of time for nightly homework should be consistent with the grade level, i.e., 10-15 minutes nightly for first grade and add 10 minutes more per grade level.

Student Responsibilities

  • Take homework home.
  • Do the assignment.
  • Return completed homework assignments as directed by the teacher.
  • Ask the teacher for further guidance if they do not understand the homework assignment (4th-6th).

Parent Responsibilities

  • Provide a quiet place to study.
  • Encourage and assist when possible or necessary.
  • Review the completed assignments.
  • Ask the teacher for further guidance if they do not understand the homework assignment (TK-3).

Possible Consequences

  • Loss of recess to complete assignments to get help and support.
  • Grades affected by missed assignments.
  • Parent contact.
